Thank
you for your interest in the Rotary Club of Fairfield, Iowa.
For nearly 90 years, Fairfield Rotarians have been serving the
community, state and world and promoting high ethical standards in
their professions.
The longest standing project of the
Club is the annual Christmas Eve Santa Claus Parade. Except for a
few war years, Fairfield Rotarians have sacrificed time on Christmas
Eve to bring Santa Claus to the town square and the Jefferson County
Hospital bringing cheer to children of all ages.
Service to students is an important
focus of Fairfield Rotary. The Club awards three $1500 scholarships
to graduating seniors each year and outstanding students from FHS
and MSAE are recognized each month. Emerging student leaders are
awarded the Rotary Youth Leadership Award and we sponsor an Interact
Club. Rotary mentors volunteer in the grade schools. Our club is an
active participant in the Rotary Youth Exchange, outbound and
inbound.
The annual Rotary auction raises
significant funds for the Rotary Scholarship Fund as well as
selected projects benefiting the whole Fairfield community. Last
year’s community beneficiary was Fairfield Parks and Recreation
Department.
During the next three years, the Club
will be participating with Rotary International in matching the $100
million challenge grant by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to
finally eradicate polio worldwide.
A special project this year will be
developed to decrease childhood mortality by addressing the effects
of substance abuse on local children.
If you are already a Rotarian, I hope
you are as proud as I am of our accomplishments. If you would like
to be a Rotarian and help with these fun and exciting service
projects, I invite you to be my guest at a meeting some Friday.
Sincerely,
Jim Pedrick |
